Mortiferum - Disgorged from Psychotic Depths

Absolute Gem - 92%

I must say that this was the first work of the band that I had contact with. At first, it sounded a little strange, but this is fundamentally important: amidst a wave of Incantation-worship groups, finally a band that showed originality and heaviness, though bringing many of these elements, this time, more focused on doom.

Mortiferum has excellent songs in this debut, containing fast rhythms perfectly embedded in dark, muddy melodies and extremely dense and wicked riffs. In terms of tone, what we see is another success. We can clearly hear influences from acts like the old Incantation works, a polished look taken advantage of by other excellent bands from Finland like Krypts and the veterans of Rippikoulu. The musical structures propose a certain complexity without exaggeration, respecting the proposal from start to finish. Songs like Putrid Ascension and Funereal Hallucinations – this one with an incredible lilting and dark atmosphere especially at the end – are simply unbelievable and show the seriousness of these guys' composition game.

All musicians have an impeccable performance. Heavy, characteristic drums, dirty guitars and bass and ethereal vocals as they should be. It's a vast, tireless, interesting and rich listen. A kind of grotesque journey into the abyss of life, death, with a very present and genuine feeling. Highly recommended for lovers of acts already mentioned, as well as the experience of being surprised by great and long compositions.
