Flotsam and Jetsam - Live in Phoenix

Not worthy! - 70%

Before I begin, I should inform you that Iove every album ever released by Flotsam and Jetsam. Their entire catalogue is an important part of the nostalgic aspect of Thrash History. Eric AK was always one of the more "capable" singers in the world of thrash and musically this band is as solid as any of their more reputable peers. I must say however, in all honesty that this DVD...that I've been anticipating for more than a year now, was somewhat of a disapointment. First off, the set list that is chosen is mediocore at best. From a band with such an impressive array of thrash classics, I'd say at least half of the set list should've been changed. The 2nd dissapointment was AK's voice...It seems to have fizzled into nothingness. There are only certain times throughout the songs that Eric's voice hints towards the genius that he once possessed. The bonus disc...is pretty much useless. Why do I care about the 30 min the band spent drinking beer at the back of the venue. And why would you include this on a second disc. Why not simply add it as bonus features on the first one, since their are no bonus features on the first disc. Initially, there was talk of including the rehearsal footage of the band in the studio when they covered Metallica's Damage Inc...Now that would've been interesting! The 2nd disc should've also included all of their Videos, which are NEVER aired on MTV or Much Music.
The highligtht of this DVD however is the bands musical ability during the live performance...especially Jason Ward's amazing bass playing. Craig's drumming is solid and as much as I wish Mike Gilbert was still around, Mark and Ed are great players who deliver an above average performance.
