In 1994, Smith tried out for the English extreme metal band Cradle of Filth, but in the end he was rejected because the band thought that his recently shaved head would conflict with their image. This story is told in his guitar tutorial video for the Cradle of Filth song "The Forest Whispers My Name".Snub was a nu-metal band from the UK.
