Rifles at Recess - The Art of Flying Without Sky

I wanna hear more of this stuff! - 80%

SoulSeekJay, July 15th, 2004

This is the very first release by Rifles At Recess from Tennessee and not only Whiskey comes from that area, there are also great MetalCore-Bands like this one.

This Demo-CD contains 4 songs, that are a devastating mixture of Metal and Hardcore with a ton of different audible influences. The first song starts with an incredible fast part with black metallic guitars and a singer who is screaming his head off! Yeah, that really rocks.

Than some moshy rhythms follow, a short breakdown and some melodic guitar melodies, but this won't last long and Rifles At Recess start the fast destruction again.

Their variation between the fast parts, the mid-tempo mosh stuff and the heavy breakdowns is amazing and they don't drown it in chaos. They just know how to handle all those different styles and combine them to a truly unique sound. Take some Black Metal mix it with some Thrash and Death, than throw in a dose Mosh, some Hardcore and rare melodies. At last take a hopeless screaming singer, who also does some grunting and spoken word parts and you'll get Rifles At Recess.

Think of bands like Morning Again or Prayer For Cleansing. Of course the production of this Demo isn't the best but because of the high-quality of the music I just don't mind and they are about to release their upcoming full length. This is a Killer to be paid attention to!
