After not listening to much music for years, I rediscovered bands that had made a difference to me like Iron Maiden, Helloween, Stratovarius, Manowar, Impellitterri, Vandenberg and Yngwie Malmsteen. New discoveries in power metal that are now faves include Galneryus, Riot and Manilla Road. I also discovered thrash, a subgenre I previously never explored. My faves in that now are now the first four Metallica albums, a lot of Overkill and instrumental thrash band Mastery. Progressive thrash has particularly impressed me with Voivod, Mekong Delta and Watchtower recently grabbing a lot of my attention. Really outside of metal I listen to mainly prog, Gentle Giant, Tool, Gabriel Genesis, Yes, King Crimson and Moody Blues being my top faves.
