You can find the list of bands I really like at http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/Revenant42/Bands.jpg
I look for emotion, atmosphere, creativity and memorable music. I don't give a shit about how 'underground', tr00, influential or technical something is. People who do shouldn't be allowed to write reviews.
I only write reviews for albums which have not been reviewed or have been reviewed unfairly. Hence the majority of my reviews are on symphonic metal, maligned for the most pathetic and un-musical reasons.
I Pantera-style groove metal - it's ugly and uninspiring in every way, most melodeath can go in the same catagory.
'Shred-metal' like Yngwie Malmsteem is utter crap, no one really enjoys it they just pretend to so they can be fast at guitar wanking too.
I also hate bands that just recycle other bands for humour value, ie most power/death/black metal bands.
I also dislike Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Bal-Sagoth etc; corny symphonic black metal isn't 'epic', it's just childish.
Incessant horrible harsh vocals ruin most extreme metal bands, usualy so emotionless and forgettable at best. Most melodic/symphonic/power metal bands seem to be ruined by amelodic guitar crunching to get that 'metuhlz' label. Either play something enjoyable or don't use electric guitars, buzzing chords drowning everything else out is horrible. And leave chugging to the sort of agressive music it suits.
My name comes from two of my favourite albums years ago, by Kamelot and Blind Guardian respectively, not the band Epica.
