Yandere Chainsaw Regurgitation Factory - Out for Blood

Why is This Good?!! - 85%

RadiantToblerone, October 21st, 2023

You'd think that an anime themed slam band called "Yanderechainsawregurgitationfactory" would be complete garbage, right? Well I mean I thought that too, just look at the album art. Speaking of the album art, I actually like it. You're probably wondering why in the world I like it. Most anime themed slam bands all seem to have indistinguishable album art. Yanderechainsawregurgitationfactory (Who I will be refering to as YCRF from this point on) has more than just mutilated anime girls on their album art. Fuck it, they have their own damn mascot. It's nothing crazy, but I think it helps them stand out a bit more. But enough about the album art, lets talk about the music!

Now YCRF is currently a 3 person band, however when this album came out this was not the case. Andrew Gonzales made this album alone, and at first I thought that this was surely the product of multiple people. Now I know what you are thinking, "Why is that surprising? People who listen to this shit don't have friends to help them make this garbage!" and as true as that is, all the instruments on this album sound amazing. The drum beats are super groovy and the guitars are heavy as shit. The opening blast beats on "Walls of Flesh" are super sick. All of the drum parts on this album are incredibly cool and I wish I could find more slam with such a good mix of speed and groove. The vocals are another thing that really stand out. You'd think for a slam band, they would have slam vocals. But no, that makes far too much sense. What they actually have is FUCKING BLACK METAL VOCALS. IN A SLAM ALBUM. On this album, there are almost zero slam vocals. I'd say about 93% of the vocals on this album are black metal vocals. So Andrew managed to make a good slam album with almost no slam vocals. I don't have a problem with this at all though. One of my main problems with slam is the fact that I hate the vocals. So a slam album with black metal vocals happened to be right up my alley.

This album has a lot of shit going on at all times, but it never seems to be too much. It also has a lot of variety, which is something I see a lot of slam bands struggle with. The track "An Angel by The Neck" has some cool atmospheric dissonance throughout the song, and I think it works very well. The fastest song on the album I'd have to say is "walls of Flesh'. As I've mentioned before, the blast beats are super groovy and cool. If you are into "Surpassing The Boundaries of Human Suffering" by Ingested, then this one might be a track you'll like. But let's talk about a weird track. "Chainsaw Chan Pt.2" is a track where it's nothing but Chainsaw Chan (The character who appears on the album art) talking to someone who I assume is probably not in the place they are in by their own will, and is probably not going to have a good time. I can only assume this poor soul is the corpse that appears on the bottom of the album art. But wait, why "Chainsaw Chan Pt.2"? Well there is a "Chainsaw Chan Pt.1" on YCRF's previous album, so that's where the first part is.

But for the question you have all been waiting for "Is this album good?". Well if you read my review, you'll know that yes, it's good. Within the vast sea of bad anime themed slam bands, YCRF stands out. Overall this album is pretty good. I haven't been able to get a chance to check out their new album since it is not on Apple Music currently, but I'll make sure to review that and whatever else this YCRF has to offer in the future.
