Wrath Attack - Bringing Out the Thrash

A bit short ……… - 55%

oneyoudontknow, January 25th, 2010

Two tracks with a combined length of slightly above seven minutes are offered on the first demo of the Norwegian thrash metal band Wrath Attack. Not much to write about. Well, as the production is quite decent and each of the instruments can be heard and also the song-writing is not overtly bad, the listener might at least be able to enjoy this short trip into the old-school thrash spheres. Even the raw and slightly unbalanced sound will not disturb this perception, as they create a special charm and add a bit to the atmosphere. Even though the title might suggest otherwise, the music on this demo is not a full blast of thrash. To be frank, the band rather sticks to midtempo with occasionally fast sections and even though they are able to get the message across, the music gives at times the impression of being played with a handbrake on. Some neat ideas and riffs are there, but the vocals are a bit of an ambivalent experience; I cannot say that I am fascinated by the screams/growls as they lack of power.

Well it is the band’s first output and with some polishing, a better production and a clear concept the music could reach a higher level. Currently the songs do not exceed the level of being nice and interesting. They lack a bit of identity and hardly encourage the listener to take more than a spin or two.
