The album kicks off with "Zadna ofiary twarz", a fast, bud intensely dark song about a face that scares men and demands sacrifice - the topic somewhat like Maiden's "Number of the Beast". The next one is "Nocny strach" - beginning with an out-of-tune waltz, and then fading into a NWOBHM-styled piece of good writing, its topic being the fears of the night. The next one is "Memento mori", somewhat weaker lyrically (for someone who knows Polish), but still very good. Then come the songs considering war, medieval, dark conflicts, that preserve the dark atmosphere of the previous tracks - "Upadek imperium", "Ksiaze wojny"... "Grozba" - "The Menace" also considers war, but "Zemsta msciciela" - "The Avenger's Revenge" and "Noz w dloni" - "Knife in the Hand" tell revenge. The last track "M.C." also considers the medieval topics of magic, war and power, told of by a master talking to his apprentice.
Since the beginning till the end of the album I feel the 80's spirit, and also the spirit of medieval times - it doesn't feel cheesy at all, but deeply moving, true and sometimes scary. This ain't no stress-less material for just having fun, it is something more. It's art, telling us about the fate of humanity from a perspective, that never outdates, because only places and clothes change...
The sound is not so good, but remember it was recorded beyond the Iron Curtain, where heavy metal bands simply could'nt be as much successfull as in the West. They lacked money, support and equipment, because the government would try to make their lives harder, as they were playing free music, a serious threat to dicatorship. But who the hell cares about the sound? The music is good, harsh and rough, it's real heavy metal with strong thrash influences. The songs are more complex than typical rock tracks, there are frequent riff and tempo changes, fast, but melodic solos and non-repetitive riffs. The band have found their own style and certainly do not photocopy anyone.
The vocalist doesn't try to be scary, he just sings and interpretates the lyrics. And it works. It sounds real, much more moving than all those cookie-monsters. The lyrics are all in Polish, but if you don't know the language you may enjoy the album, too. Even with no words, just melodies, it makes your imagination work!
For me, this is a classic - one of the bands that wouldn't mind the political situation, that's always been and still is terrible, but go on and rock. And they do real art, no commercial shows.
My last comment considers the previous review-writer... Man, stop giggling at Polish, cause it is exactly as good as English if you know what you want to tell the audience. For me it makes no difference what language someone sings, if he has something to tell - he will, if not - no language will save him.
