Now, this is Wizard's debut album, and it's a good release. Though they would evolve later, for a first time this is just fine. Now, this album is not anything technical as Fates Warning, nor it's something fast as Blind Guardian's debut, it does not have yet completely evolved it's speed metal riffs, but still it has a extreme catchyness that get's you hooked up immediately. The vocals are raw and good, this guy can really get a good scream out of himself, the guitars have a mixed power\speed metal sound and the solos are catchy as hell and really can get to you, the drumming is simple, yet works perfectly. The lyrical theme is always the same in all their career - you know, the usual metal, Odin, battle stuff, but it's not irritating or stupid.
Sign Of The Wizard is definetly the cachyest song here, forget all of those Amon Amarth death metal mumbo jumbo, all you need you have it here. It's about battle, it's about vikings, yet it simply rules. And after the acustic part the song kicks fast with speed metal based riffing, really catchy and good.
Now... Death Or Glory, this is the second best song on the album. It has actually a really dorky but extremely catchy chorus, and makes you headband like hell, don't know why, it simply happens. As for the riffs, pretty much speed oriented adding to the atmosphere.
Rain of Death is the stupidest song here... supposed to be a ballad.. .but I don't get the sense. Dawn of evil is simply a speed metal epic assault, a highlight of the album with a really catchy chorus(again ;) ). Lovesong actually gets to me, a simple and nice ballad.
Enemy die is THE speed metal assault! Fucking great, and again the chorus kicks some fat ass! A pure headbanger... awesome material, surprisingly good.
Son Of Darkness starts with a cool riff, and is followed by some mid tempo speed riffs, all in all a good song.
Lonely Wolfe should be mentioned as a great speeder too. Though not as catchy still it owns. Fuck your ass is nice though stupid.
All in all a pretty good album with insane choruses. Worth getting.
