With Passion - In the Midst of Bloodied Soil

Nothing emo here... - 70%

Starcide, July 30th, 2007

Nothing emo in the slightest about this album, there is 'core influence but I find this just helps to diversify their sound more. I guess it boils down to the fact of do you mind some core in your metal? I feel that With Passion accomplish this with tasteful results.

The dueling guitar riffs are technical and forever changing, they remind me much of The Gallery from Dark Tranquillity. This can however lead to this albums only “criticism” is that the songs wander alot and have many different parts and riffs to them while not being terribly “progressive”, although With Passion manage to tread this path carefully and do not fall into the realm of too much wankery. The keyboards are a great presence, used sparingly but to great effect, helping to add much atmosphere and feeling to the music. Also of note is a great performance in the drum department.

In The Midst Of Bloodied Soil a good solid album and recommendable to fans of Arsis and other (harsher) melodic death metal bands.
