A Conquest Triumphant Indeed! - 85%

With Faith Or Flames (WFOF) delivers a huge slab of metal riffs and vicious vocals as they plow their way through their second release A Conquest Triumphant. Melodic death metal, brutal breakdowns and epic guitar solos are all over the place, and if you are into metal with a high pace and catchy riffs, this shouldn’t disappoint you!

WFOF grabs you by the throat from the get-go and leaves no prisoners. They are clearly on a mission to destroy everything and everyone in their path with epic-sounding riffs. And oh my lord, those riffs! They really never cease to be amazing and are a mixture of thrashy and melodic riffs, and very power/heavy metal-sounding in their tone. And on top of that, WFOF also brings in some heavy breakdowns here and there, but they sound fare from your typical metalcore band! Bass is fairly audible and follows the guitars closely, while the drummer does a great work-out behind the kit. The drums sound great, and the snare has a bit of that garage pang-pang sound that I love. The vocals are amazing too! Ian Sharp has a great raspy high pitched scream and an equally great growl, and he reminds me a lot of Trevor from The Black Dahlia Murder.

The album is a strong release throughout, and the only song that kind of seems out of place or there hasn’t been put much effort into, is the title-track. Located in the middle of the album, it does take the energy a bit out of the album - then again, all previously songs has been amazing, so fair enough if the creativity drops a bit. However, the band comes back in style after this little let down. So all in all, there’s a ton of fun and headbanging to be had with A Conquest Triumphant!

I strongly recommend this for people into melodic death metal (not the cheesy Swedish stuff though!), and epic sounding mayhem. I had hoped for WFOF to have lasted longer, but sadly this was their final release.
