I admit it, curiosity often takes the best of me. Why would I otherwise waste time with this album? To warn others? I listened to it and I wish I hadn’t done so. If you want, you can take this review as a warning. Here we go, descending into the pits of shit...
In many ways, this album doesn’t differ too much from Against the World. While Decimate the Weak and Great Stone War had decent sections, Against the World and this album are simply terrible. Is there anything tolerable, let alone good here? Unfortunately, hardly anything. It’s true, there are quasi-listenable keyboard sections scattered across the album (one of them being in the intro), but the problem is that they almost always sound completely out of place, which really ruins everything and defeats the purpose of the keyboards.
Unlike Decimate the Weak and Great Stone War, but very much alike Against the World, this album has no good guitar sections. Almost all that guitars do is chugging and breakdowns. Say Hello to the Undertaker (a really kitsch name, if you ask me) does have a guitar section that isn’t TERRIBLE, but the rest of the song sucks balls. I should also mention that the vocalist is as bad as ever. In fact, guest vocalists happen to be better than the band’s vocalist in a few places, which should tell you something. As before, he barks out, generally speaking, extremely stupid lyrics. But I'm sure you expected it and I won't cite any examples.
Should I even mention breakdowns? Unfortunately, since this IS a deathcore album, I’m afraid I have to. Where do I begin? Breakdowns in the intro and One Foot in the Grave sound way too similar to each other. But don’t think other breakdowns are much different, since they are NOT. If you’re cynical, you may say they all sound the same, anyway. But this time, you would be really close to truth. In fact, some of the breakdowns may have already been used on this band’s previous releases.
Best track here? We should actually speak about the track that sucks the least; the least terrible track would be the intro track, but even it is ruined by chugging in the other half. The next track, Say Hello to the Undertaker, while terrible, is still way better than the tracks that follow it. I thought Reloaded (found on Decimate the Weak) and California (found on Against the World) were shit, but most of the tracks here are actually worse. Production is not bad at all, but that’s not so important, since production means shit if the tracks are worthless crap. Ever heard of the expression "You can polish a turd, but it will still be a turd"? It fits perfectly here.
That’s it, this band is dead to me. Resistance is better than Waking the Cadaver’s debut album and anything Emmure and Attila have recorded so far, but it’s still awful. There is really no reason to bother listening to this album. Hell, I wouldn’t recommend this album even to people I hate. Stay as far away from this as you can.
