Windfaerer - Glorybound

Indeed, Windfaerer's bound for glory! - 70%

Lord_Lexy, October 4th, 2009

Windfaerer is a new band. The first demo, Glorybound, has been released in 2009 and it announces the arrival of a new band in the folk metal scene, a band that might have some very interesting releases in the future. And at the time of writing Windfaerer’s first full-length, Tribus, is being prepared.

What does Windfaerer have to offer with Glorybound? The demo contains two songs, nearly ten minutes of music. Not really enough to get a good image of the bands creative powers, but let’s get on with it. Both songs, ‘In the Wake of War’ and ‘The Great Fire’, are fast paced songs. The production of the songs has been done very well, with a decent mix between the different instruments.

The drums are played very fast, and thus make the entire song fast paced. There is a lot of drumming with the feet but overall the drums are being played with experience. The vocals are screams and performed really well, they remind me of a harsher version of Alexi Laiho’s vocals (Children of Bodom). The guitars don’t do any solos, and in the mix they are present more as rhythm instrument than as lead instrument. The violin is the leading instrument. Its presence makes that Glorybound sounds like something Eluveitie might have written. Although, it wouldn’t be fair to say this is just a copy of Eluveitie. Sure, at certain moments Windfaerer sounds more or less like Eluveitie, but the overall atmosphere is less ‘dark’ than Eluveitie.

This demo is worth listening to, and I hope Windfaerer will have their first full-length ready in the near future. What they showed on Glorybound is bound to prove to be great folk metal.
