Wind Of The Black Mountains is a USBM band that began in 1992 and split up around 2006, in that time frame they released 2 demos, 2 albums, an EP, and a compilation. The EP begins with a soft intro that consists of a wolf howling, the vocalist talking, and some instrument being played before it delves into the actual music. The first song has a female clean vocalist paired with harsh vocals for around 2 minutes and 30 seconds before switching to exclusively harsh vocals. The guitar riffs are pretty good, the drumming and bass however don’t particularly stand out. The vocalist utilizes your typical black metal vocals and therefore is good but not unique. The keyboards add to the atmosphere without conquering the music. The first track ends with yet another soft moment. There are more clean moments than I would have preferred however this doesn’t take much away from the EP. The first track is relatively mid-paced and lengthy. the second track is shorter and faster-paced. The second track being a Bathory cover was cool. however, they don’t do it better than Bathory. This EP is simple & straightforward black metal. The instrumentation isn’t very technical which adds to the simplicity of the music. The mixing and production aren’t outstanding but they work. The production isn’t too clean nor too raw. I couldn’t hear the bass but the vocals, drums, and guitars are all audible. I would do a list of standout tracks however there are only two. Overall, a solid 2nd wave USBM release but it could’ve been more abrasive. Not a mandatory listen but a nice listen.
