Pint of Pills

Before diving into this, let’s just take a minute to appreciate how amazing that album artwork is. A cat bursting out of a planet holding beers? That couldn’t be a better marketing tactic for people like me. Warfaith are a thrash metal act based out of France. Their first full length came out in 2015 titled Wise Man Is Dead, and to follow this up, they’ve recently put out a new EP known as Pint Of Pils.

The big picture is similar to Tantara mostly due to the vocal style and ferocious speed, but this isn’t technical in the slightest. Weirdly enough, you’d picture barbaric “party” crossover, but it actually isn’t that at all. In fact, death metal incorporation such as rolling double bass kicks backing slower chugs make their way in, done in the vein of Morbid Angel. The drums are my favorite part, as the tone is hollowed out, giving a nice raw punch, which can be heard easily at the beginning of “Night Of The Drunk.” I also really dig the ripping solo in “From The Past Mistakes.”

With such a short release, you can’t expect to get much out of it, but I do find Pint Of Pils falling short in certain delivery aspects. While certain instances stand out, a lot of the tunes here don’t bare a lot from start to finish. “Education Of Life” is oddly executed, with unflattering vocals that break the flow. There also isn’t real value in the way of being consistent. “Vermin” randomly throws in growls to back the regular vocals, which I will admit makes it more aggressive. The bass in this is stellar as well, so I’ll give them that, but the finished product didn’t sit super well. Overall, this made for a decent spin and it’s worth the time, but nothing is exceptional save for small snippets here and there.
