Oh well … e-bay is certainly an interesting source for obscure demos and stuff no one wants to own and the first of Vulcan Tyrant would be one of those. Around seven minutes, which are distributed over two tracks, are offered on this first output by the Dutch band and being a one-man-army, at least some aspects of the outcome can already be predicted aforehand.
First of all, the music is pretty raw and three elements can be found: (often) guitars in the background, while drums and vocals are in the foreground. This would be the basic concept and the solo parts change something in this arrangement and appear in the front row. Furnace Of Eternal Flames would be the better of the two tracks, as it more riff-oriented and offers a more complex and interesting song-structure. Both have the old-school sound in common, which tends to shine through now and then; despite the minimalist approach. The riffs are quite catchy, especially the solo parts, but the mix has ruined the impact of the guitars a bit. Of the vocals the mixture of screams and croaks is necessary to note and they vary impact; on a larger degree on Diabolic Vengeance. Finally, an odour of bed-room project surrounds this demo and the way it was recorded further support this argument.
The problem with this release are the following aspects: it is too short and its blandness. Especially the absence of a bass is a facet which backfires and the perception by the listener is rather that the music is shallow as well as bereft of a good deal of facets. Further and this does not come as a surprise, the mix is by no means optimal and especially when solo parts a played, this flaw reveals itself as the switch in the dominance of the instruments leaves the rhythm-guitar in the background alone; its play can basically be ignored. So, this demo is certainly listenable due the skills of the person behind Vulcan Tyrant, but fails to fascinate in the long run. Some spins and the positive impressions are gone.
