Volturyon - Blood Cure

Hard to believe these guys are brand new! - 93%

edible_autopsy, March 2nd, 2008

I just downloaded this album off of Rapidshare this morning, expecting a decent death metal album since they're from Sweden. I was pleasantly surprized with how fresh this album sounds. It's overall mix is fantastic, especially the guitars/drums. You can set your watch to that shit!
Especially listening to the bands song arrangements and the drummer's techniques, I can definately hear some technical death influence, along the lines of Necrophagist, Gorod or even Decapitated.
I was very impressed with the vocals... and I mean VERY pleased. Being an experienced death metal vocalist myself, my expectations for a death metal band's singer are quite high... especially with Swedish bands, those motherfuckers got it right!!! He is able to maintain an overall brutal tone with his gutterals, but is also able to maintain somewhat clarity with his vocal lines.... so you can actually understand what he's saying most of the time!
The guitar solos are quite innovative and origional as well, creepy sounding with a hit of progressive influence.... so it's like listening to Steve Vai on acid with images of Michael Myers...
Overall, this album knocked my socks off. I instantly gave them an extra 5% due to the fact that they're brand spanking new... When I checked the archives this morning, i was expecting that these guys dropped their first album back in at least '01 or '02. But for Blood Cure to be Volturyon's debut release, I'll be expecting nothing but bombshell material in the years to come. Buy this release!!!!!!
