Vio-lence - Eternal Nightmare

Need Thrash? - 100%

Vaibhavjain, June 26th, 2008

Holy Mother of GOD!!! What is this? The best thrash song ever made? Possibly. The song is quite long clocking in at near more than 6 mins and has a plethora of riffs ensuring that the listener never gets tired of listening to it and well.. a broken neck. Hear this track a few times and you’ll be humming to it for quite a few days . The production of the song is as good as it can get back then and even though the number of riffs and variations are enormous they don’t seems smudgy even for a moment. The other track on this single, “Phobophobia” is another 6 minute epic and in no ways weak, yet it seems so small when compared to the previous masterpiece of a track.

It was the riffs that set the band Vio-lence a class apart from the bands and a clear example of that is displayed here. The only drawback on these songs are the unusual vocals that get annoying at times, but then again who said thrash metal focused on vocals?

Listen to this and every other thing remotely thrash seems bland for a long long time..

Violent nightmare - 70%

The problem of 'Eternal Nightmare' LP was that it was overlong. In that time the band didn't had too much variety in their material, and so most of the songs there sounded the same and made this album sounds very repetitive. However, if you taking only a little slice of it, you can really enjoy it without getting bored in the middle.

The production is pretty solid. The guitars sounds quite heavy and wealthy, the drums are quiet intense and the bass is easily noticeable. The vox has a high tone and they are quite monotonous, hardcore kinda. There are also some gang vocals here and there which increases some essential heat which steps up a bit the vocally level of this material.

'Eternal Nightmare' has a great shitload of moshing riffs and flows pretty well for all it's six minutes. Progress pretty good also and doesn't sounds overlong. 'Phobophobia' sounds kinda strained, too many riffs which doesn't really leaves a mark on you, they kinda trying and trying, but the juice is squeezed and nothing really happens.

Decent overall, if they inserted 'Serial Killer' instead 'Phobophobia', I could say this single contains the best couple of songs from 'Eternal Nightmare'.
