Vespers Descent - Three Faces of Eve

Swedsh...er, I mean Australian Melodic Death Metal - 71%

PainMiseryDeath, March 27th, 2004

While this sounds like it could be (insert generic Swedish melodic death metal band name here) it still has its moments. This EP is a hard-hitting set of gritty melodic death metal, the guitars are dirty, the ample drum sound fits in rather well with the standard drumming, and the vocals are quite gruff, choosing a more traditional death metal approach over the lame and sometimes typical hardcore style of similar bands. Nothing amazing on this cd, but its worth checking out, certainly if you are a fan of melodic death metal. There are none of those slow acoustic and boring parts on Three Faces of Eve, these guys can rock. If Vespers Descent create a little bit more of their own style, and maintain their skills, the next album will be well worth checking out, as the songs on this album demonstrate excellent musicianship and a good knowledge of songwriting.
