Veil - Dolor

Deep Atmosphere - 95%

Taliesin, February 13th, 2006

Veil comes from Wisconsin, and is a band heavily involved in the National Socialist scene. However, don't let that put you off from listening to this demo (now CD album) , as Veil has created one of the best musical journies that you can hear in black metal. What you have are 3 of his own songs (one is repeated at the end slightly shorter), each one a deep creation of his feelings and of the ancient ancestors he desires to live his life for. Each song is a beautiful expression of the ancient heathen spirit in modern man, both mournful and triumphant. As such, Veil has taken part of the deep spirit of the early Norwegian's and made his own music upon a similar basis as Burzum, not just apeing Burzum's style whilst writing lyrics about suicide.

One might compare these works to bands like Drudkh, Wigrid, I Shalt Become, Nargaroth and Burzum, but despite that, these stand alone. Brilliance that will be remembered in times to come. I can't suggest buying this tape (or now CD) enough. If you enjoy mournful black metal like the bands I just listed, then you must own this album.

Best track: "I Follow."
