Throbbing darkness - 55%

oneyoudontknow, June 1st, 2016
Written based on this version: 2015, CD, Taarnet Tapes

To counter that which is doomed to linger in the artificial prolonging of a moment. Hardly ever too concrete, hardly ever too vague. Mysticism not in a nutshell, because there is not enough in the essence to relief it of its main imperative. It is merely meandering in the realm of facets, whose style and sound are counter to clarity. The vision is stretched in the monotonous droning of the guitars, while the drums add the nuances of narrative(s). It is a live performance and differs not much what the band has done before on various recordings, but those familiar with the outputs, might still be confused about the limitations in the expressions of the band in terms of actual complexity.

Maybe the visual aspect is missing … maybe. The haunting imagery, whose resonance dares to have a direct reflection of the mind. It appears the prospect is somewhat blurred. All in all, how the band etched the level of song-writing away into a rather long ongoing piece of drone (on the CD), broken down into four parts (on Bandcamp), leaves a bit to be desired. The music progresses and the music has an end. The music has dynamics and the music is minimal. Either of these appear and vanish again, but there is not much that would really try to grab the attention of the listener. Sounds and ideas are there, but it is difficult to bring these into a broader perspective.

Too limited it seems, too restricted and restrained.
