Malicious Malpractice, eh? That's not a comforting thought, but as a title for a brutal death metal album, it works brilliantly. It's also one of the very few titles on this album I understand, because "Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis" or "Hypertrophic Encephalopathy"? Yeah, whatever dude, you do you. Luckily, I have a better grip on the music present on this little platter 'o' disgusting delight!
To its credit, this cd does not waste any time with an unnecessary intro, but straight up comes charging out of the gates immediately, slapping the listener around the ears with a hefty dose of brutal death metal. Not the most original in the genre (then again, who is in brutal death metal nowadays?), Urosepsis combines elements from bands like Skinless, Insidious Decrepancy, Meathook and Sepsism with those of the eary works of Immolation, Deeds of Flesh and Suffocation. Within the frame of short, pointy and aggressive compositions, band mastermind Shane Elwell maneuvres from blasting fury to stomping groove and back, with lethal and precise down-tuned riffing throughout, while gargling his sick lyrics on top of this acidic concoction. Variation is key here, and the music flows out of the speakers in a supple way, making this album simply fly by, effortlessly keeping the listener's interest throughout. The contemporary production luckily does not sound too digital or lifeless, but manages to preserve the soul of the music pretty well. There are way worse sounding efforts in the genre out there, that's for sure.
This is a very entertaining brutal death metal release. The combination of a good production and copious amounts of brutally honest aggression with excellent execution of the music ensures that "Malicious Malpractice" is an enjoyable blast of brutal death metal. I guess just about every fan of the style has heard stuff like this about a million times before, but Urosepsis' full length debut is enjoyable enough to keep the brutal deathbanger entertained for quite the while. I have heard way lesser works than this one, I'll give you that.
