Unholy Land - Dethrone the Light

The forces of darkness shall reign again! - 95%

ImpaletheCunt, September 2nd, 2019

Italy certainly isn't the hotbed for putrid black metal. There is a reason why the country is also shaped like a boot, because of the incredible amount of shit bands from this region that one needs to fit into it. Almost everything that comes out of this rubbish dump falls into the category of pussy-metal and their antics of adding keyboard and piano to most releases pisses me off to the fucking max. Most of their bands have more cheese in them than the legendary "Biaggio special" calzone pizza. And then you get these mother fuckers. Known as Unholy Land and forming way back in 1999, these demon masters bless us with impurity divine. What a fucking album (and band) this turned out to be.

They have more hyper speed than a Pegani Zonda pummeling down an unrestricted autobahn yet this will cost you a fraction of the price. I destroyed the play button and was instantly hooked when Infernal fall raced out. Fucking raging black metal spewed forth as Aren devoured my soul with hateful vocal spit. He effortlessly blends his overwhelming shrieks with occasional death metal growls and its lethally intoxicating. Lyric themes are exclusively of total hate, uncontrollable mayhem, glorious Satanic victory and diabolical torture. Christianity is basically fucked upon hearing these words of wisdom and I'm tripping on his despicable attitude. Finally, an Italian band with an uncompromising "fuck you" attitude. Only Blasphemophagher comes to mind as their equal in the brutality department. My faith in Italian bands is starting to get restored. Hail Unholy Land and banish the cursed light from the catacombs of their dark forlorn empire

The drums are a blast-fest of blackened debauchery as Marco Forese decimates the drum-kit with intensity. Crikey is he fast but he also initiates the relentless headbanging your body so craves. His style induces uncontrollable Tourette’s as you jackhammer out of control in a mosh crazed frenzy. Fucking addictive stuff this and highly recommended. His style reminiscent of the glorious past but also updated with an injection of the barbaric new, a perfect blend of the best of both worlds if you ask me. Pure adrenaline that will leave you spellbound. Aren on Bass holds his own and manages to keep up with the tempo throughout the release. Drowned at times by the blaring rhythm guitar, he is at least audible most of the time.

Now for this albums crowning glory, the rhythm guitar attacks that are bounty-full. Mornak plays this weapon with bewitching conviction with copious amounts of blistering speed. Only track #5 slows down somewhat until this legion decide to kick into overdrive and the second half of the release can only be described as a blur!!! These dark priests are the pallbearers of the Italian second wave of wretched black metal. Satan is barbarically pleased as Dethrone the light crushes all pretenders.

Buy or fucking die!!!!
