Undying - The Whispered Lies of Angels

cold and distant... - 95%

mutiilator, March 8th, 2004

Undying was in their prime before the original singer Timmy had to leave the band after medical problems arose. Wasting no time, they released a full-length as their first release, and The Whispered Lies of Angels was born.

Call it "melodic death metal" if you want, but ask any hardcore fan, and this is the truest form of pure metalcore. TWLOA features influences from hardcore and metal, coercing them into an aggressive, but melodic form of music, full of emotion, but still cold and distant. The riffing is heavy, but technical, and the vocals are mainly harsh but still utilize clean passages.

After 27 minutes of music, one of the best covers i've ever heard can be found on this disc. My Dying Bride's "The Cry of Mankind" is covered, and it's so much better than most covers because the band uses their own sound and style to do the song, rather than trying to copy the original track note for note.
