Extreme Prog Metal For Your Pleasure - 90%

Uncured is a young band from New York new to the metal scene. They were formed a few years ago and their first release dates back to 2016. They play a form of extreme progressive metal. This means an alternation of clean and harsh vocals. Their latest release is the single Living like I’m Dead. The eponym song is not as long as a typical prog metal track, but the music is potently progressive here. The production of this is stellar, all instruments blend well and deliver what they intended to do in the song.

As I mentioned in the introduction, the music here is progressive metal with some death metal elements, thrown on point, to give this much-needed touch and in order to embellish the softer sections. The main singer, Rex has a great voice that will resonate in your mind for a long period. The harsh vocals in return compliment the rest of the work quite remarkably. They are not those growls that will make you disgusted and would wish they did not exist at all. The chorus is insanely catchy thanks to Rex’s flexibility in changing his tone in every segment of the song. The guitars here are mostly technical and the solo is typical of technical death metal output. The bass is also there to add some heaviness to the music along with some keyboard effects in the background, which by the way, are not a nuisance by any means. The drums and the percussion work are good but not outstanding. I would say the top thing about the musicianship here is the vocals without a doubt.

Living like I’m Dead is an excellent addition to the progressive metal world. You will enjoy this single even if you are not a fan of the genre. Yes, it is that good. I implore you to try it out and you won’t be disappointed.
