Trust - Le mateur

A long incarceration explains b-side's agitation - 82%

“…il passé des heures a matter mon cul…”

Released supposedly during the same month as the full-length it supports, Le Matteur/Darquier is, I guess, its own counterargument. A-side “Le Mateur”, which, considering its placement in the debut’s track order, coulda been construed as the second wind of the muted smoking lounge known as “Palace”, but its personality that splits between an image similar to “Palace” and its more metallic, boisterously-enlarged chorus divides the two appropriately. Pinning it as the a-side is a bit of risky marketing to me, but what do I know?

Non-lp b-side “Darquier” was cruelly held captive by this 7” ‘til the early ‘90s, and though it can’t shake the instilled institution of down home r&r from its DNA, the track’s fiery fullness and vibrant execution unsheathes its metal edge that likely wouldn’t be as Ginsu if not for such factors. With his solos piling up in my brainpan, ‘Noro’ Krief is closely becoming a memorable guitarist to be ranked alongside peers with this exceptional gift, and his fluently salty licks here do nothing to pull free this delightful anchor. Sucks ‘cos this is quite the Trust creation, where underneath it successfully works off a pretty basic floor, and then to be confined like some thirteen year old kidnap victim twinges on criminal.

While the a-side has Trust’s broadly-ranged and eclectic influences in mind, the flip is the real showcase, desirable not only for its non-lp status, but for the tune itself and the enthusiasm it brings, which is hopefully pretty clear after a spin.

Evidently the English translation of the lyrical blurb header is “…he spends hours to matter my ass…”.
