Triskèle - Origines...

A different sound - but still totally unique - 89%

KayTeeBee, December 30th, 2004

Triskèle's first release was a very raw BM album that was recorded in the forest. While very enjoyable, the album got a bit boring after a while. After getting their second album, Origines, I was hoping they wouldn't stick to the same old stuff (not that it's a bad thing, but everyone needs to evolve), I was hoping they'd make different BM. Damn, i'm such a lucky guy. I got what I wanted. This sounds nothing like their previous release, production AND riffage wise.

This one has a more medieval feel to it - or rather a march feel to it. The intro totally sets the mood and the tone for the album. It's a classical orchestra piece, and it sounds really, really impressing. You'll also notice the riffs are a lot cleaner than the ones in "Les Murmures De La Forêt". There's about the same amount of distortion, but there isn't any forest echo. The vocals are also great, and this time we can at least hear them! The riffs aren't too repetitive also, they manage to put in a good amount or rifs in everything song. The vocals on this release DO sound like akitsa (the ones that sound like a gregorian chant). As for the harsh vocals, it's just your basic BM growling.

Now for the bad parts. This is way too short (34 minutes in length). It would also add a lot of feeling to the album if more acoustic parts were added, to add more feeling to album, or to keep the aforementionned medieval feel to it.

Still an excellent release, and better than "Les Murmures De La Forêt".
