Triarchy - Save the Khan / Juliet's Tomb

Average, nothing special, mediocre - 50%

Mungo, March 2nd, 2007

Triarchy were one of those short lived NWOBHM bands that never really became popular and disappeared after a few releases. This was released in 1979, just before the movement became really populated.

The music on here has it's ups and downs. For the most part it is boring, average heavy metal that doesn't really do anything for me. When it's good, it's above average, and when it's bad you want to turn it off. So yeah, it's not the best single ever. The choruses have that typical NWOBHM feel to them, being sort of catchy with some high pitched vocal lines over them, while the verses consist of the same riff that is used in the chorus. There is a really annoying synthesizer in here as well, which can get pretty annoying at parts and sounds out of place with the rest of the music. It's not so bad when they use it sparingly, but when it's given it's own solo in the first song it leaves the listener scratching his or her head. It gives the impression that the guitarist wasn't experienced enough to do a solo himself. When he does solo in the second track, it's good but nothing special. The vocals are, again, average. He has an alright range I suppose, but he sounds like he's just going through the motions. The drummer and bassist don't do anything of note either.

All of this adds up to a release that isn't bad but painfully average. There's nothing much here that you haven't heard before, and they sound like a lot of other NWOBHM bands with a synthesizer added in.
