This album sounds as if a small local band with awful recording equipment and zero technical know-how decided to skip releasing a demo and go right to a full length album. Well, I know these guys personally and that’s exactly what happened. A reason why bands make a demo is because everyone starts somewhere and it is typically someplace that when/if they do better, they don’t what to think about how shitty there demo was. But Torrential Reign will forever have this engraved onto their gravestone of official releases.
Anyway, when I listened to it, I can almost here a faint glimmer of good concept. But the lack of experience on their part coupled with the fact that the can barely record this pile of bantha fodder equals sonic shit. Any clean or lead passage attempted in this album just sounds awkward, not to mention the guitarist (Joe “Jokarr” Dunbar) clearly didn’t know how to tune his guitar or get a decent tone out of his amp. They use a drum machine and not even a good sounding or programmed one, so really what else is there to say for it. The vocalist (Steve “Vortex” Krikorian) tries to do clean vocals throughout, and fails….magnificently. Occasionally, there are some Thrash metal style yelling, but really doesn’t add to effect or dynamic because you can’t get into the song in the first place. Clearly no one in this band knows what a key is or that one should stay in it.
There is constant static throughout this album. Sometimes it’s tolerable but on some songs, like The Apocalypse or Brimstone Prophecy you cannot even hear the song. If old immortal took their demo tape, forgot about it, and it got left in abbaths basement for 10 years, and when it flooded abbath rediscovered it and released it. It may be close to that quality.
I give it a 10 because it’s funny to laugh at other people’s ineptness at composing/recording. I don’t recommend it to anyone unless you have a good sense of humor. Hell, even if anyone did want this, there really no solid means for you to get it.
