"Ein Hauch von Trauer" is the third demo of Todessucht and the enhancement compared to "Kalt und Leer" or "Wo Einsamkeit ist..." is considerable. Todessucht have now a unique and eerie sound whereas the other two demos were very raw and thin in the production. But, this demos are still guiding the way how Underground DSBM should be. The especial thing of "Ein Hauch von Trauer" is the oppressive atmosphere within the long songs. I try to explain this atmosphere following:
All instruments are building a dark shape, which surprises you and take you away on a journey through the blackest realm of hopelessness. The record is supplied with a echo or a intense reverb. This makes it more atmospheric and the listener feels like he's getting lost in a hall without an exit. The only exit, you could mean, is to stop it, but this dark atmosphere will pursue and torment you, this sickening screams, once more from Fäulnis (the longer he's active now in various projects so much more scaring is his work now), the ever slow drums with a beautiful reverb of the snare, the distorted guitars with such a melancholic under tone... you will be persecuted by all of it. The sound is driving, straight forward, never stopping. It creeps slow forward, unstoppable. It's like life, directly in the arms of misery.. a all-destroying wall, no way out, no way out..
The difference between the first two tracks needs no declaration. Both they sound in the same sort, both have a length over 10 minutes and create by means of repeating and psychedelic riffing, drumming and the long-winded vocals the mentioned bewildering atmosphere. It takes your air, you are lost, half-sleeping, half-awake, chanceless, leave, leave..
The third and last track is a rehearsal version of "Verzweiflungstat Part III" and it reminds me more on the older works of Todessucht. It sounds more raw and there are fewer elements of echo and extent, so the dark atmosphere, than on the other two songs. How did I said? The first demos are also directive in this genre and quite good, so this song likewise does what's his task: It deranges.
Todessucht always fascinated me, but never on this manner. It's one of the better demos I've heard in the last time. Todessucht have now showed all their ability to create depressing music. Music to forget all and perceive it again to fall again and again and again...
To experience the right effect you shall hear "Ein Hauch von Trauer" in total darkness and total solitude.
Let you drive where it tears you...
