Tiwaz / Thorns of Evil - Southern Pagan Resistance

Yay! - 79%

Snxke, July 2nd, 2004

This record was hardly stunning following the contributions of both Tiwaz (see my review on the Tiwaz page of Metal-Archives) but in it's own right bears some competant moments. The production is very good for underground black metal, the musicans can most certainly play, and the overall feeling is one of some sort of satisfaction...

The songwriting on this is the only weakness of this release. Thorns of Evil try their hardest to conjure the most evil of evils both musically and lyrically and they certainly do blast through like a cackle of demons, it just seems as something slightly more is needed to put them right over the top. This is not to say the band is currently without merit as they easily crush the Darkthrone worshipping turds that have been constantly rehashed to death. Strong, yet not yet at the level this band could attain. Buy this, listen to this, praise the evil forces within it and make sure to send them enough mail so that they may survive enough to (eventually) make their masterwork.

This is best bought when on a split with Tiwaz as this mix of both bands works very well for summoning a truly diabolical mood, but on it's own I only suggest the band for those truly curious about the underground scene in Brazil. This is truly GOOD, it's just not yet truly GREAT.

I give this band one more release or two before the enter the big leagues...

(Yes, this is one solid thumb up...)
