This stuff is suprisingly strong and "dancey" black metal from the depths of Brazil. ("The Rune of Victory" can be found in the U.S. mostly as part of a split CD with the band "Thorns of Evil".) From the nation that spawned the likes of Criminal and Sepultura (for better or worse at this point) we now have some warmly produced and well composed (not to mention well PLAYED) black metal!
Tiwaz don't lend for many comparisons as they really DO have a sound of their own, which is more than rare in this day and age. Using the common "blast and dance" motif the band mixes in classy keywork, highly varied vocals (from gutteral howls to fun "chant" moments) and tight musical movements. The songs are entertaining from beginning to end, the writing is catchy and unlike most black metal...the hooks sink in and keep you attached to the songs.
There is little more I can say about this four song offering. This band knows EXACTLY what they are doing. Despite living in a land where "Rune" is simply a bizarre choice of words they've managed to CAPTURE the vibe of that sort of thinking effortlessly. These guys can play, these guys can write, these guys are more epic than Dimmu Borgir could ever hope to be.
The only thing one wonders of is how a bunch of guys from South America can competantly create such "wolf" oriented grim atmospheres in such a culture. It seems antithetical but somehow works...
Wonders will never cease.
I say BUY IT.
