Thy Will Be Done - Was and Is to Come

You Suck Part III - 12%

The_Boss, May 31st, 2008

Well, when I heard the first opening riffs to Voice Divides I thought this was going to kick ass, then after it proceeded to take a turn for the worse. I thought it was going to be something more than just a Black Dahlia Murder type At The Gates rip off and have something awesome, have some worthy riffs and songs. Instead Thy Will Be Done play a style of melodic death metalcore I guess I can’t keep up with all these faggy subgenres that keep popping up and incorporating more metal influences to try and trick people. This is basically you’re bland as fuck metalcore band that has added a bit more melodeath elements to try and prove to the audience that they are real extreme metal. Their page on the Encyclopedia Metallum states them to be Thrash/Groove and I was led to believe they might be somewhat decent being a huge thrash fan… but still that groove thing thrown in there doesn’t help. I find absolutely 0% thrash metal in this entire release. Fuck that, this is straight up Pantera/Killswitch Engage/Black Dahlia Murder influenced metalcore/melodeath.

I swear if people are thinking this is thrash then I’m going to shoot some scene kids NOW. This is NOT thrash god dammit. I literally find nothing here thrash, the only thing remotely thrash is possibly the lead guitar solos, I find them to be extremely weak and absolutely worthless compared to anything else that this genre has to offer, and they are barely thrash, if thrash at all. He doesn’t shred all over the place, which he probably should that would help this more, instead he just keeps his leads fairly melodic and melodeath driven, as well as having very generic newer melodeath type groovy riffs to add to the semi-br00tal factor. It’s perfect for those fags that go to concerts just to mosh or hardcore dance and all that shit, I would know I saw them open for Dying Fetus and Origin last week and I was disgusted. The drums are the only other decent thing here and by decent I mean not 100% shit, more just like 90%. He really doesn’t do much other than your typical… drumming. No blast beats, hardly any awesome double bass display, just drumming. The bass I think is there, barely, he’s probably off wondering when he can have his turn to solo or have a neat bass line instead of being bored following the guitar.

The worst part here is the vocalist, he’s terrible. His voice is the ultra br00tal attack of ripping your vocal chords with weird ass metalcore type vocals mixed with all those fags that play that Christian metalcore like Norma Jean or Zao or I don’t know. It’s just so stereotypical, generic and worthless. I don’t understand if you’re going to do harsh vocals at least make them good, make them something more than the just semi-whiny, semi-distorted type; I think you know what I’m talking about. It’s the approach that Trevor Strnad has in The Black Dahlia Murder that goes very high screeches to low semi-guttural weak-as-fuck cookie monster growls; at least TBDM’s vocals aren’t this annoying.

Overall this is a shitty release and I urge you to steer clear of this unless you like groovy metalcore type bands that are full of breakdowns, utlra-br00tal riffs that are just oh so perfect for moshing and dancing too or just a generic and typical shitty sound. This is NOT thrash metal so don’t be fooled, this is boring and generic groovy metalcore that throws in some melodeath influences to try and fool you that you’re listening to legitimate extreme metal. Fuck this, it’s mediocre even for the subgenre, the only thing they have going for them is a semi-talented guitarist that hides behind those breakdowns and doesn’t use himself to his full capability. This may seem like just an all out thrashing of metalcore in general, but while it may be fueled from a different source, this band is truly worthless. Thy Will Be Done is literally one of those dime a dozen type bands you could find anywhere and nothing would change in the sound. The overall sound would still be as generic and is still literally the same thing every other band that has this style plays, absolutely nothing original. They need to stop playing generic (I mentioned they were generic before right?) grooving metalcore, bag the vocalist, and start ripping off real melodeath Gothenburg riffs and become an At the Gates clone, at least then you’ll be somewhat interesting.
