Kaiser of Evil!!! - 85%

Wow, Humiliation, I guess you’re having quite a run for your money as far as my favorite Malaysian band goes. Here’s another kickass band from Malaysia making a hit in the metal scene, they’re called Thrashit. I love the name as well, sounds like a combination of “thrash” and “shit”. This is their album released under Witches Brew, who also provided a reissue of Surtur’s “Descendant of Time”.

Now, Thrashit’s “Kaiser of Evil” is an eight track album, the first being a short instrumental intro. This album is rather on the short side, the longest track lasting a mere three minutes and thirty seconds. A bit short, and the album just passes by really quickly, but I would definitely say that is quite memorable. Quite a few riffs really get stuck in my head. There’s a lot of catchy yet intense riffs here.

I don’t know what it is but a lot of these Southeast Asian bands (at least the ones that I happen upon, such as Thrashline and Killing Fields) seem to go for the harsh vocals that are in the vein of Paul Lind of Morbid Saint. The vocals are definitely aggressive and evil sounding. On top of the vocals, the guitarist is also quite talented. Definitely a lot of technical riffs on this album, the intro to “Pressure” in particular sounds quite techy. However, they are also quite capable of making quite catchy riffs.

There’s quite a nice balance of evil, technicality, and catchiness in this album’s riffs. The production is pretty well done for this album, as it makes the guitars sound really sharp and piercing. In this respect it reminds me a lot of Destruction’s earlier works where Mike’s guitars sounded quite similar. At first I thought it was a bit lightweight but on the other hand, gives it more of a razor-sharp sound as opposed to a pounding, bassy sound.

This is a great album, highly suggested if you’re a fan of Teutonic thrash, Morbid Saint, or first wave black metal. My personal favorite track on this album will have to be “666 Days in Hell”.

My rating: 8.5/10
