Pass The Torch, Death - 66%

Sweetie, February 2nd, 2021

In 2019, the California sun brought us a dark wave of black metal crossed with punk known as a band called The Passing. Last year, their debut EP simply titled The Passing proved to fit its name given that it passes you so quickly that you can hardly gather everything in one listen. This is thirteen minutes of synchronized blast-beats and d-beats with dirty riffs under an ache-ridden atmosphere. The vocals are belted out and smeared over the rhythms, creating a noisy gradient that basically acts as one fast stretch of song. The only real standouts are the thumping bass that shows in songs like "Worthless Existence" and the sharp attitude. Though it isn't much, it's a worthwhile spin at worst and a promising offering at best.
