The Partisan Turbine - Surgical Assault

Beautifully Brutal and Disgusting - 95%

Deathamphetamine, April 14th, 2007

This is The Partisan Turbine's debut release on Seige of Amida Records (SOAR), and musically this goes far enough for me to consider 110% for a rating, however the production was not as stellar as the music, so I decided against a perfect score.

The album opens with an intro and an instrumental track, which are brutal in their own way, and great openers for the track "Parasidic Slaughter". When I first heard this track I was honestly scared, because it was so brutal. Despite understanding nothing that the vocalist was saying, I couldn't help but picture gorey and disgusting things in my head, which I assume would be the goal of recording music this downtuned and pissed off.

The vocals are low growls, pig squeals (for the most part) and high pitched screeches. This sounds generic for a brutal Goregrind/Deathcore band, but let me tell you, this fucking EP steps beyond anything you have heard in your LIFE. There was something about it that just made me want more, and made me wish that this band, The Partisan Turbine, would hurry up with a full length.

Intrumentally, the music is not terribly technical, but not completely simple either. There is enough to satisfy any type of death metal or even hardcore fan, and I cannot stress that enough. If one thinks, after reading this review, that this is still just a generic brutal deathgrind band, think again, because this EP is fucking unique and nothing I have heard in recent time has even come close to it.

The only bad aspects that come to mind are the production, and how bands like this seem to enjoy wasting time and tracks with meaningless ambient sounds and stupid intros. With music this enjoyable, I really wish I'd heard more of those disgustingly guttural growls and screams, rather than only through 6.5/9 tracks. Yes, Vaginal Secretion is a typical deathgrind, just over a minute song, but is stretched to over 10 minutes with random sounds having nothing to do with music. The full length will need to have at least 18 tracks to satisfy me as a full length. For the music that WAS on the CD... I must say, that I am in love, and glad that I listened. I recommend this to Hardcore listeners, Death Metal lovers, and anyone who enjoys heavy music in general.
