The Lust I Seek - Serpent Scripts

Why are they not signed yet?!!? - 95%

It is blasphemy that this band is not signed and/or well known in the metal world. With their second release they have proven to be young metal gods in the making. With crystal clear production quality, one would find it hard to believe this is a ‘just a demo’. Everything about this band screams blackened death doom with a gothic metal twist. Most doom metal bands that I have run across, especially in the more mainstream, have been very organic, tasteless, and boring (even the new My Dying Bride has worn thin to my ear drums), but not this band, who manages to stray into realms of industrial, black, melodic death, and ambient metal while still keeping it’s original doom based sound intact and keep the listener interested.

The only downside I can depict from this album and this band (aside from the rather bad cover art of the CD and overall shortness of the CD) is the clean vocals. Although they are by no means unbearable or disgustingly bad, they come off rather cheesy, especially in the first song’s beginning moments. However, the vocalist makes up with some of the most powerful harsh vocals I’ve heard in a long time. The guitar work is the major standout, bringing intense, moody atmospheres to the music. The guitars and bass together are carefully structured to create ever-changing riffs, melodies, and mayhem as the music flows through several stages of extreme progressional structure. The drums are also a standout of amazing talent in both speed and rhythm that keep the music in tact throughout each of the 3 tracks.

Overall, each song is a solid standout in it’s own right and the album altogether is a solid peace of heavy metal glory that needs to be recognized by the general public. Regardless how cheesy it may seem to look at with both the simplistic album artwork and rather cheesy but effective band name, the music is beyond grande and is worth the time to download off the band’s web site for free. For fans of old My Dying Bride, old Katatonia, In The Woods..., Opeth, and Gray Skies Fallen.
