Since resurrecting with a new line-up, The Boneless Ones have seemed more comfortable with jokey references to their past, and 'Santa Stole My Skateboard' being released proves that most clearly. The thrashing song has simplistic features relevant to punk and crossover, but the point of the piece is to tell a silly story about a Christmas present and link it to skateboarding as strongly as possible. As a result, the very regular vocals of Max Fox come through loud and clear with a spoken word emphasis, but also possess the attitude required to sell the tale. The riffing feels moderately catchy and the beat doesn't push the pace too much, nor do the quartet stress over fancy touches beyond the Christmas song reference in the intro, so you can look on this as a practice session for The Boneless Ones, not an alternative to any of their album material.
