The Blood Countess - The Clarion Call

Incredibly Irritating - 28%

Refuse_Resist, November 16th, 2008

The Blood Countess is one of the bigger bands in the local metal scene in Arizona. After having many people inform me of their music and never seeing them in a live setting, I thought I would finally give them a listen. Now however, I wish that I spent that time listening to the sound of cats fighting. This band offers no originality, and is nothing more than another worthless deathcore band in a sea of combovers and girl pants.

The Clarion Call is a horrid listen in unoriginal deathcore that just about everyone has had the displeasure in being exposed to. While I listened to each song, I could almost predict the exact time when the breakdown would come in and ruin any shred of song-writing these guys created. Also, the vocals are awful. They sound way too forced and you can tell that this band cups the microphone to make up for their lack of growling abilities; just like Suicide Silence who they are obviously influenced by. The lyrics are typical society and inner-struggle oriented. No memorable lines, catchy choruses, or interesting subplots here. Not all is bad though with The Blood Countess. The guitarists are young, yet are anything but novices. The drummer is decent at blasting and can easily play for a better band than this. I’m afraid that’s where the admirable qualities end though.

It’s no wonder I haven’t seen them live because they probably only play for other lame metalcore bands. The Blood Countess has the talent, which no one will deny, but they music is lacking and amateurish. There are better bands out there representing the Phoenix heavy metal scene.
