Tengwar - The Pilgrim's March

Cheesy yet Enjoyable - 85%

The_Blacksmith, December 23rd, 2006

This is the first demo of the Argentinean Folk/Power metal band Tengwar. Like many demos of unsigned bands it can be downloaded freely from their website.

Despite being only two tracks, both of which are ICREDIBLY cheesy, it’s still very enjoyable. We start out with the song Marching South (The lyrics are about Tolkien's Middle Earth - Not what you'd call origional). The song starts out with choirs and then a bagpipe melody. The vocals are very power metally and cheesy, perhaps in the vain of Terasbetoni but in English and not quite so over the top and with a rather strong Argentinean accent, but I like them. The song is filled with pleasing bagpipe and flute melodies and choirs and above all is very catchy.

The song The Pilgrim's Gone opens with another nice flute melody that after about 20 seconds is accompanied by drums and various other instruments, and just after 40 seconds it bursts into a full speed power metal track not loosing the flutes. The vocals then kick in and are actually even cheesier than before but still good. This song is much more upbeat than the pervious track and the power metal influences show very thickly in this song.

In general, this is a very pleasing demo that is diffidently worth downloading from their website if you like cheesy power metal and folk metal (Like I do) but if you dislike anything remotely cheesy give it a miss.
