I bought this demo with Arrebol Records some weeks ago after listening the digital version. I decided to make this review because of the quality present in composition and sound. Despite being a demo the production of it is remarkable. Since this is a two-song demo, I will go through each song.
The first track, Leviatán, is a great example of a well balanced song, passing from strong melodic riffs to clean interludes full of harmonious sections. The song begins with an "Iron Maiden" style of melody accompanied by gutural singing (It would be better with more compression and some effects on the voice, but it's OK), then the madness begins; from technical riffs to moments of silence where the melodic guitars (well panned by the way) are the main component, creating an atmosphere of despair and nostalgia. Then at the middle of the song, suddenly, all stops setting the introduction to the instrumental interlude of clean guitars with a post-rock style (the bass in this part is remarkable), then the song returns to the core riff to introduce the outro. Solid song, enjoyable ambient.
Elegías breaks the preconceptions about the release with experimental riffs, some of them with really obscure presence. From one moment to another the music slows down to a melancholic melody (my personal favourite part of this demo). Then is when the climax arrives with speedy riffs full of despair based on black metal influences, and then softly passes to the instrumental outro with clean guitars. This is a song that penetrated my soul completely, impressive.
I liked the way the lyrics were written, for it is difficult to write good metal lyrics in spanish, a well achieved aspect of this release from my point of view. I'm not giving 100% rating, it would be really good if this was recorded with real drums, nevertheless the drummer has shown a perfect exposition of his technique in both songs. I would describe the music present in this demo with the words: wrath, nostalgia and melancholy.
