Strid - End of Life

The Forest...The Desolation... - 99%

CHRISTI_NS_ANITY8, September 14th, 2007

The very first Strid demo was still recorded under their name before, Battle. This is a black gem, absolutely. Well, there is not too much to say, because this demo is only composed by one, very long song. Here we have 11 minutes of primordial atmospheric black metal. The sound quality is good and after a small drum intro you can hear their fantastic music. This is the BLACK METAL, ok? The main dark, nightly melody is made by the guitars, so inspirited…i's like being in a forest during a cold night, where the only light is the one of the stars and the moon. The beginning is quite slow but going on, with the coming of the screamed voice, the tempo changes and becomes faster.

Their importance in the black metal scene is well known and they achieved the goal of becoming of the very few cult in the black metal scene of Norway. Their sound is quite similar to another great band, Manes that in those years was recording some demos too, that now belong to the legend.
Some short and slow solos and bass parts contribute to give even more obscurity and, at the same time, a nocturnal melody…the great thing of this demo is the mix of fast parts to slower ones and that's perfect and necessary for a so long song.

The influence they had on the black metal scene is huge and if you listen to Dimmu Borgir’s “For All Tid” (what an album…in those days that band was still BLACK) you can find it, on the guitar sound, on the melodies, on the screams…Also Forgotten Tomb from Italy in some interviews said that Strid are the fathers of the "depressive black metal", so famous now, and that is true.
Desolation, cold, neverending forests…this demo contains everything…this is the black metal. Listen to it and get lost in their dreaming black world. A must. A cult.
