Spectre - Drifter / The Black Jewel

Can You Feel The Fire That Burns Within? - 80%

CHAIRTHROWER, February 28th, 2022
Written based on this version: 2022, Digital, Dying Victims Productions (Bandcamp)

Following mildly rocking and most traditional 2017/18 singles, multi-instrumentalist solo journeyer Will Fried - of Dracula, Space Raven, Tarot, The (apostrophe cast) Wizar'd and Torpedo - spun around last week with top flavorful snippet yet; namely, his second dual-tracked single titled Drifter/The Black Jewel. Fans of heavily rocking, albeit catchy and light, melodically accessible fare such as Norway's Flight, Scotland's Oath and Canada's non-MA ignited Freeways need to give it a serendipitous spin!

Scratchily smoking its benign, super uplifting way to stratospherically elevated level of liberating, free-fall free-for-all, the 3.75 minute "Drifter" stirs up nostalgic proto-metal whiffs of good-time, 70s era celebration and swagger (thanks to one-off vocalist Jake Glas), whilst slightly longer, languorously slow-burning "The Black Jewel" (featuring David Harrington-George on bass) mixes forth even more antiquated, if not mystical, Pagan Altar/The Wizar'd vibes. In regards to latter, Will's clear, yet wavering and decidedly warlock-like, Terry Jones (RIP) styled vocals wickedly compliment his old school, bluesy solo which reaches its peak with catharsis. At eight minutes, Spectre's latest apparition hints of stellar tidings, thus planting seed towards full-length.
