Another great find just before the turn of the year is this quite new band hailing from Argentina. Having been active since 2015 the slightly odd titled “Remnants of a Repeated Future, Part 1” is their second full length following their debut from 2016. While having never heard of them before I have been deeply impressed by the passion and the professionalism presented on this album.
Their brand of melodic power metal mainly reminds of big European names like Helloween or Vision of Divine but similar to other South American acts like Angra or Age of Artemis there are some subtle prog tendencies thrown into the mix for good measure. Some of the songs even have a slightly thrashy nature similar to the early Blind Guardian or Persuader albums. The crunchy riffs are combined with highly melodic and sweeping lead harmonies giving the whole music a very epic vibe. The lead guitars are especially impressive working as driving force in the background but also offering some fantastic soloing sections.
The drumming is fast and ferocious pushing the music even more forward. The speed and intensity are kept high over the whole playing time with only a few slowed down parts. Thankfully the band members are very talented songwriters making sure that each song is easily distinguishable from the others so that there is not one moment of boredom. That being said the album has a very stringent feel leading to a very satisfying listening experience when consuming the whole record in one sitting.
While the tempo is pretty high for the most part a few songs also offer calmer moments. That being said these slower parts build a great contrast to the fast drumming and the lightning quick riffs that are otherwise dominating this album. Some might argue that the keyboard sounds can become a bit dominant in places but on the other hand the symphonic harmonies are key elements helping the band to create their majestic and epic trademark sound. However, the orchestral undertones do not take anything away from the heaviness but work as a great counterpart complementing the overall picture.
Most songs have a memorable chorus presented in outstanding fashion by singer Lobo. He has a perfectly fitting voice often staying in the mid-ranged area. However, he is also able to deliver soaring high-pitched parts without a problem. His aggressive yet highly melodic style helps ramping the intensity and epic factor of the whole music up a notch.
The production is flawless and crystal clear. The guitars have a crunchy tone and the mixing of the drumming offers enough punch and power. Even the bass is perfectly audible. Rounded off by a very classic artwork “Remnants of a Repeated Future, Part 1” is another gem of an album that would deserve much more attention than it will probably get. Each fan of beefy yet melodic power metal should give this record at least a try. I for one am looking forward to Part 2.
