... but that's the good thing. His first Sons Of Liberty effort was almost exactly two years ago, around Christmas 2009. Many of Iced Earth fans are not quite satisfied with the fact that Jon is the patriot. Same people don't like The Glorious Burden (Iced Earth album) and Brush-fires of the Mind (Sons of Liberty album). In my opinion, both of these albums are great, and I don't consider The Glorious Burden anykind of partiot album, it's just great history-themed album.
The first album was free-to-download, but in this case you have to pay $5 on iTunes to get 5 ass kicking song. Songs are very diverse, more are ballad-like, and there's some heavier stuff. The ep starts off with the anthemic Alive, then goes through three heavier tracks: Full Spectrum Dominance, Molon Labe, and Mind Control, finally closeing up with another anthem, the title track, Spirit of the Times.
Every song is based on politics and New World Order conspiracy, but that's the goal of the project, to wake up the people. Considering that the album is mostly based on lyrics, I have to admit there are many great riffs that could be easily used in Iced Earth songs. The great thing is that Jon decided to put them right here.
The only thing I dislike here is drum programming. The drum are too repetitive. The guitar sound is great and Jon is great singer. Great stuff on there, listen to it!
