I've known about Slow Horse's existance for years now, but I've never have come across one of their releases, until about a month ago. Now, my search continues for Slow Horse I, because II is fucking great! WOW! What a slice of doom heaven. M-A has this a bit wrongly classified, because they are obviously sludge doom, but that's beside the point. What we have here is some Sabbath-worshipping yet innovative twist on doom. Daniel Bukzpan's vocals are very melodic, almost "emo" like. Strange I know, and then he tops it off by writing songs about his girlfriend who dumped him after 4 years of living together. It's really melodic and not something you usually associate with doom at all. The drumming is what you would expect from a doom album like this, incredibly slow and precise. The bass is perfect, and it blends with Bukzpan's guitar work to make it thick sludge like.
The album starts off with I'm Nothing I'm No One, a very depressing track, and from there, the album varies it's speeds on different tracks. One track does a very strange intro in which Bukzpan and drummer Scott Sanfratello start off in tandem with a slow, note by note harmony, and progressively go faster and faster until they stop and go back to the dirge plod. It's very cool, and I recommend this to people who love doom/stoner doom/New Orleans sludgecore.
Some tracks I recommend: Coming Unhinged (possibly the Paranoid of the 21st century), The Game You Play, Nameless
