Sinner - One Bullet Left

Somewhat decent album - 52%

MorbidAtheist666, November 27th, 2023

The album title “One Bullet Left” might suggest that Sinner intended this album to be their final album, however they released four more albums after this one. They have released many albums over the years and they continued to release albums into the early portion of the 21st century. It sounds like the heavy metal has overpowered the pop elements on One Bullet Left, which is good news for you Sinner fans who don’t like their heavy metal/pop material. The sound production sounds pretty good on here, but it sounds a little bit too clean. It sounds like they went all out with the sound production on this album, they wanted it to sound perfect. This album mostly has mid-paced songs and there’s three slow sounding songs. The three slow sounding songs are Haunted, Wake Me When I’m Sober and Rolling Away.

Mat Sinner’s voice has aged a bit, but he’s still able to sing. You can really tell his voice has aged on the title track, 10 2 Death and Haunted. Mat Sinner is also the bassist and there’s not too many memorable bass moments found on this album. His bass sounds pretty good on Give & Take and Mind Over Matter. Mat Sinner’s best vocals are found on the songs Suicide and Rolling Way. He sounds really damn great on those songs. He doesn’t do any over the top singing nor does he do any over the top bass work. You may want to check out previous Sinner albums for that.

This album has a ton of melodic guitar work by Alex Beyrodt and Christof Leim. That’s one of the things I noticed on this album. The guitarists are being super melodic on all of the songs. Most of the guitar riffs are unfortunately on the generic side. You will most likely eat this all up if you are into melodic guitar work. I think they go a little bit overboard with the melodic guitars on this album. Melodic guitar work is heavily used on this album and it gets old after a while. There’s really great guitar riffs found on Give & Take and 10 2 Death. Oh and Atomic Playboys has some great guitar riffs as well. There are two super great guitar solos found on Suicide Mission. Atomic Playboys has two superb and dazzling guitar solos.

As for the drumming, it sounds a bit on the generic side. André Hilgers does an adequate job of drumming. There’s really nothing spectacular about the drumming. I know the drumming sounds really damn awesome on past Sinner albums, because they had different drummers on those albums. Hilgers makes his debut with Sinner on this album. I will say that the best drumming is found on the title track. It sounds pretty creative and heavy. There are good moments on Wake Me When I’m Sober. Rolling Away is another one that has good moments as well. If you are expecting some terrific drumming, there’s no terrific drumming found. The drummer doesn’t go over the top on this album.

It’s a somewhat decent album, I wouldn’t call it an awesome album. I wouldn’t even call it a stellar album. I’d say this one is for the diehard fans of Sinner. I’m sure the diehard fans of Sinner will enjoy this one. Fans of melodic guitar work being overused will enjoy this one as well. This album is somewhat of a disappointment, I know this band can do better. I will say that this album is better than Respect. This isn’t a terrible album at all.
