Shell Shock - Die for Allah

Belgian Lemmy - 80%

VNVNV, March 2nd, 2007

This is the first and only full length release of the Belgian metal band Shell Shock. Although the production is very low key and does sound pretty bad at times, the quality of the music itself definitely makes it up for me. Is it just me or do these guys rock? They write songs about war, their beliefs, and every day life, and make it all into interesting metal worthy tracks.

“Ayatollah” starts the album off where you can hear some Arabic school kids just repeating religious verses, then the bombs fall and war effects come in, this starts the non stop musical action.

The vocals on all these tracks are excellent, and I have to admit I was wrong. I used to think that Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead had vocals that were completely unique to this world. Sorry, but it you do not believe me then just listen to any track of this album.

The bass, guitar and drums are also excellent. All the songs are short, (well under 3-4 minutes) and are all fast paced without too many melodies, but do contain some interesting riffs and well executed solos.

Some of my personal favorites are “Nail You Down”, “Solitaire”, “Mr. President” and “An Eye for an Eye” which are your typically fast and catchy head banging anthems that sound just like they could be coming from any classic top-rated Motorhead album.

Thumbs up if you like plain, fast, metal tracks that can accelerate from 0 to 60 in about 2 seconds.
