Serpentor - Poseído

Another good release by this Testament clone - 76%

Gabometal86, October 25th, 2004

SERPENTOR – POSEIDO.

“Poseído” is the second full-length release from the Argentinean thrash metal band Serpentor. We can say that this band has rescued that glorious 80s thrash sound that few bands dare to practice nowadays and gave it a more angular sound. If you listen carefully to this album you will find that Serpentor is very influenced by Testament and it also features some melodic bits and lots of Slayer-esque mosh riffs and breaks.
Something very significant is that this albums displays a melodic and raging thrash that is virtually extinct not only in South America if not in almost the whole world, I wished the production was a bit rawer and more old-school as their debut album but anyway and even with the modern production this album rocks.
13 tracks compound this release, in which you will find unstoppable fast-paced riffs, thrash clichés, high quality solos, the bass and the drumming that dedicate to emphasize the bases and give the songs rhythmic complexity and a vocalist, Guillermo Romero, who is the argentine version of Chuck Billy.

Dissecting this album we can find old school thrash tunes like “Asesino”, “Mirar Sin Ver”, “Corrupción S.A”, “Serpientes” and “No Me Prediques”. All these hitting in the vein of lets say, Bay Area Thrash but with a more angular approach and lots of fast solos. More melodic thrash songs with melodic bits like “Demonios Al Acecho”, “Violentando El Futuro” and “Sueño Letal”. Mid-paced songs that speed up at some point and go thrashing all around abound here, like for example “Sindrome”, “Desgeneración” and the title track “Poseido”. Also there is an instrumental song called “Nunca Estaras Solo” and a Spanish version from Slayer’s classic “Reign in Blood” which is translated as “Lloviendo Sangre” and it is very respectful with the original song, played at the same speed but with a more growling vocal approach.

Conclusion: An enjoyable thrash album from 2004 that will satisfy most of the thrashers out there.
